A member’s perspective. A personal connection.

I’m D’She­adra Dot Benford, founder of The Krafty Chick Jewelry + Accessories. I’m a creative, a proud South Side Chicago native, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Council of Negro Women.

I believe the pieces we wear can tell our stories—celebrating our individuality, honoring our communities, and connecting us to something greater than ourselves.

A Creative Spirit from the Start

My love of creating began in elementary school and continued through classes at Chicago State University, where I explored new ways to bring my ideas to life. Over the years, that creativity grew into making beaded pieces, personalized gifts, and items that celebrated the organizations close to my heart.

In 2013, when my position was eliminated, I turned a professional crossroads into an opportunity to focus on The Krafty Chick. What began as a lifelong love of making became a business built around personal expression, meaningful connections, and accessories with personality.

As a member of Delta Sigma Theta and NCNW, I understand the pride behind wearing something that represents your organization. These pieces become part of our memories—from celebrating service and sisterhood to recognizing milestones and gathering with the people who share our purpose.

The Krafty Chick is officially licensed with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Council of Negro Women. I’m proud to offer jewelry and accessories that help members celebrate those connections in their own style.

That personal understanding also shapes my approach to custom chapter and section orders. I know how much thought goes into choosing a gift or creating a piece that represents your members, your history, and your next chapter.

I grew up in Chicago’s Roseland community, and my South Side roots continue to shape how I do business. Creativity, resourcefulness, and community care are part of my story—and part of The Krafty Chick.

Beyond designing, I’m passionate about mentoring and creating opportunities for fellow entrepreneurs. Through Chicks Who Create, I bring creatives together to share ideas, support one another, and shine.

For me, building a business also means building relationships—with customers, fellow makers, and the communities that help us grow.
